Instructions
 

  • Place the dried Mopani worms in a large bowl and cover them with boiling water. Let them soak for about 15-20 minutes to rehydrate.
  • Drain the soaked worms using a colander or strainer and rinse them under cold running water.Remove the heads and any remaining internal organs from the worms. This can be done by gently squeezing the worms and sliding out the contents. Discard the heads and organs.
  • Rinse the cleaned worms once again to ensure they are thoroughly cleaned.Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
  • add the cleaned Mopani worms to the pan and stir well to coat them with the onions and garlic.
  • Sprinkle the ground paprika and cayenne pepper (if using) over the worms. Stir to evenly distribute the spices.Reduce the heat to low and let the worms cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The worms should become tender and slightly crispy.
  • Season with salt to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.Remove the pan from the heat and let the cooked Mopani worms cool slightly.
  • Serve the Mopani worms as a snack or appetizer. They can also be used as an ingredient in other dishes, such as stews or stir-fries.
