Pepper soup is a spicy soup usually made by the people of West Africa. It can be eaten at any time of the day. It can be prepared on special occasions and also for an ill person to help quicken recovery. It can be taken alone or served with a number of foods.

Ingredients for pepper soup

  • 2 cassava fish
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 4 scotch bonnet pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of ground ginger
  • 1 small onion
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 lemon (juiced/squeezed)

 

 

What Pepper Soup Can Be Served With

Pepper soup can be served with fufu, yam, rice or plantain.

  •  Strainer

 

Steps to prepare pepper soup

  1.  Cut the cassava fish into smaller sizes as you prefer amd wash with water and juice of  lemon.
  2.  Put a saucepan on fire. Put the fish into the saucepan, chop the onions and add to the fish.
  3.  Add salt, tomato and a little water.
  4.  Let it simmer for a while.
  5.   Blend garlic, scotch bonnet pepper, tomato(removed from saucepan on fire) and ginger in a blender.
  6.  Pour through a strainer into the saucepan with fish and add some water to it.
  7.  Let it cook on fire for a while.
  8.  Serve when ready.

 

Pepper soup can be made with chicken and meat as well.
