- 1 small onion
- 2 tomatoes
- Salt (to taste)
- Cayenne pepper (one teaspoon)
- Mackerel
- Salmon (broken into pieces)
- Palm oil
- Water
What Nuhuu Can Be Served With
Nuhuu can be served with fish on the side. It is mostly eaten alone with the fish incorporated into the dish.
Steps to prepare nuhuu
- Peel the cocoyam and slice into small pieces into a bowl.
- Chop your onions and tomatoes onto a plate.
- Wash the sliced cocoyam and put into a saucepan.
- Add your tomatoes, onions, mackerel and salmon to the cocoyam and add some water slightly above everything in the saucepan.
- Add your salt and cayenne pepper and put on fire.
- After some time on fire, use the ladle or flat wooden spoon to press on the cocoyam to mash it a bit.
- If the cocoyam is still too hard and the water content is gone down, add a little more water and let it cook more till it softens.
- Add a little palm oil to it and stir.
- Remove from fire and serve into a bowl.
