Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rolled oats or any other type of porridge grain (e.g., quinoa, millet, rice)

  • 2 cups of water or milk (dairy or plant-based)

  • Pinch of salt (optional)

  • Sweeteners or toppings of your choice (e.g., honey, maple syrup, fresh fruits, nuts)

Instructions

  • Measure the desired amount of porridge grain. Rolled oats are a popular choice, but you can use any grain you prefer.
    2. Rinse the grain under cold water to remove any dust or impurities.
    3. In a saucepan, combine the rinsed grain and water or milk. The ratio is generally 1 part grain to 2 parts liquid, but you can adjust it to your preferred consistency. Add a pinch of salt if desired.
    4. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Stir the mixture occasionally to prevent the porridge from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
    5. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a lid.
    6. Cook the porridge for about 15-20 minutes, or until the grains are tender and the porridge has reached your desired consistency. Stir occasionally during the cooking process.
    7. Once the porridge is cooked, remove it from the heat. If it appears too thick, you can add a little more water or milk to adjust the consistency.
    8. Sweeten your porridge to taste with honey, maple syrup, or any other sweetener of your choice. You can also add toppings such as fresh fruits, nuts, or cinnamon for extra flavor and texture.
    9. Serve the porridge hot in bowls or individual dishes. You can store any leftovers in the refrigerator for a few days and reheat them later.
