CASSAVA FLAKES RECIPE

Cassava flakes, also known as gari is a common food made by processing cassava into small pieces or flakes. In the Hausa culture too, there are different foods that can be processed into flour form or tiny pieces like yam, corn, millet and rice, which they also refer to as garri.

Gari can be combined with a number of other foods. We will discuss that below.

This article will focus on how to make gari from cassava.

  • Tubers of cassava

What Gari Can Be Served With

Gari can be served with beans. It can also be served with palm oil, vegetables, tuna or sardine, in the popular meal known as gari foto, Not forgetting gari soakings in which water, sugar and milk is mixed with gari and eaten as a snack. Gari can also be mixed with stew and eaten with waakye.

  • Large clay pot
  • Sieve
  • Long wooden spoon (to stir)

 

Steps for CASSAVA FLAKES RECIPE

  1. Peel the cassava tubers and wash them.
  2. Using a large grater, grate the cassava into fine pieces into a bowl.
  3. Pour the grated cassava into a porous bag and put in a press machine for up to 3 hours. (This is to drain excess water from it).
  4. When it dries, sieve it into another bowl.
  5. Get a large pot and put on fire.
  6. Pour the grated cassava into the pot and stir as you fry for some time.
  7. Remove from fire when it is well fried.
  8. Let it cool down and store in a container.
