- A cup of brown beans
- 1 red pepper
- 1 small onion
- Salt
- Vegetable oil
What Akara Can Be Served With
Akara can be served with Hausa koko, as is usually done here in Ghana. It can also be served with fried yam,bread and gari.
Special Utensils Needed
- Blender
- Wooden spoon or electric mixer
- Draining spoon
Steps to Prepare Akara (Instructions)
- Soak the beans in water overnight to soften it.
- Wash the beans and blend with about 1/3 cup of water.
- Pour the mixture into a bowl and add salt, pepper and onion(onion and pepper must be chopped).
- Mix everything together with a wooden spoon or electric mixer.
- Put oil on fire and heat it up.
- Use a spoon or ladle to fetch the mixture in desired quantities and fry in the oil.
- Turn over and allow each side to fry well to give you a golden brown appearance.
- Remove them when ready using a draining spoon, drain any excess oil and serve.
