Equipment

  • grill tongs
  • meat thermometer
  • cooking spray
  • grill

Ingredients

  • steak
  • salt and pepper
  • additional spices or marinade

Instructions

  • Make sure your grill is preheated to a high temperature. This will ensure that the grates are hot and ready to create those distinct grill marks.
  • Pat your steak dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Season it with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices or marinades.
  • Brush a thin layer of oil directly onto the grates of your grill. This will prevent the steak from sticking and help create defined grill marks.
  • Carefully place your steak diagonally across the grill grates, positioning it at a 45-degree angle. This will create those classic diamond-shaped grill marks.
  • Allow the steak to cook for a few minutes without moving it. This will help the grill marks to form. Resist the temptation to flip the steak too soon, as it may cause the marks to fade or become less defined.
  • After a couple of minutes, use tongs to rotate the steak 90 degrees. This will create crosshatch grill marks. Continue cooking for a few more minutes.
  • Carefully flip the steak to the other side using tongs. Repeat the process of placing it diagonally across the grill grates, rotating, and creating grill marks.
  • Use a meat thermometer to monitor the internal temperature of the steak and ensure it reaches your desired level of doneness.
  • Once the steak is cooked to your liking, remove it from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute and results in a more tender and flavorful steak. Slice and serve.
