Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream and minced garlic over medium heat until it simmers. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced potatoes, grated cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly coat the potatoes with the seasonings.
Pour the simmering cream and garlic mixture over the potatoes. Gently toss to ensure all the potatoes are coated.
Transfer the potato mixture to the greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
After 45 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired, before serving.
