Instructions

  • 1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
    2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant.
    3. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Break up any large clumps with a spoon or spatula while cooking. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
    4. Stir in the diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
    5. While the meat sauce is simmering, lightly grease a baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish.
    6. Once the meat sauce is ready, spoon half of it over the potato layer in the baking dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
    7. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, meat sauce, and shredded cheese.
    8. Cover the baking dish with aluminium foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
    9. Once baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
    10. Serve the mince and potato bake hot as a main dish, accompanied by a fresh green salad or steamed vegetables if desired.
Enjoy your mince and potato bake!
