Rice is a common meal eaten by many in Ghana. It forms part of most of our daily meals. Rice can be turned around into different forms which can be eaten for breakfast, lunch and supper, depending on what form it is in.

Today, we will learn how to make a simple breakfast meal known as rice porridge,commonly known as rice water.

First, we will look at the ingredients needed in preparing it.

 

Ingredients for rice porridge

  • 1 cup of rice
  • 5 cups of water
  • A pinch of salt
  • Sugar (optional)
  • Milk (optional)

 

What Rice Porridge Can Be Eaten With

Rice porridge is mostly eaten with bread alone or bread and fried egg for breakfast.

 

Steps to prepare rice porridge

  1. Pour five cups of water into a saucepan, add pinch of salt and put on fire.(You can add more water depending on the consistency you prefer).
  2. Measure one cup of rice into a bowl and wash.
  3. Drain the water from the rice and add to water on fire.
  4. Stir and leave it to boil till rice soaks water and cooks.
  5. When it is finally ready, serve and add sugar and milk as you want it.

So you see, rice porridge is a very easy to prepare breakfast meal and doesn’t require much skill to make.
