Grandma's apple jam
Ingredients
- Fresh apples
- Water
- Sugar
- Lemon juice
- Citric acid
- Ground cloves
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients and in a large pot, combine the chopped apples and ground cloves, and water. Cook until the apples are softened and then blend it in a blender. After blending, pour the mixture back into a skillet and on medium heat, add in the sugar, stirring continually to ensure everything is well mixed and then add the lemon juice, and a pinch of citric acid.
- Continue cooking until the apples have softened, and the mixture has thickened to a jam-like consistency. This usually takes about 1 hour.
- To check if the jam is ready, place a small amount on a chilled plate. If it wrinkles when touched, it's done and vice versa.
- Remove the pot from heat and let the jam cool for a few minutes.
- Ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving a little space at the top. Seal the jars and process in a water bath for long-term storage, or refrigerate for short-term use.
