Turkish tea recipe
Turkish tea, also known as çay, is Turkey's traditional national hot beverage. It is a black tea that is served hot and usually unsweetened. However, it can also be enjoyed with sugar or honey. The tea is served in small tulip-shaped glasses and often accompanied by sugar cubes. It holds cultural significance and is a common social activity in Turkish culture.
Ingredients
- Turkish tea leaves about 2 to 3 teaspoons per person
- Water
- Sugar optional
Instructions
- Make ready all your ingredients and fill the bottom kettle of the çaydanlık with water and place it on the stove to boil. Or get two different pots, a smaller and a larger one and boil your water.
- Add the Turkish tea leaves to the top kettle or the smaller pot. When the water in the bottom kettle or large pot boils, pour some of it into the top kettle or the smaller pot with the tea leaves.
- Allow the tea leaves to steep for some minutes. The longer you steep, the stronger the tea. Adjust the taste of the tea to your likening by diluting with water.
- When ready, serve the tea in small tulip-shaped glasses and add sugar cubes if you prefer.
- Enjoy your Turkish tea!
