A red wine sauce is a sauce made from red wine with other ingredients like shallots, broth, butter, and herbs. It serves as an accompaniment to meat dishes, especially beef, lamb, or game meats. This simple yet delicious sauce is made by first reducing red wine to increase it's richness. Shallots or onions are often sautéed and added to the reduced wine, along with broth for depth. Butter is frequently incorporated at the end to add silkiness and richness to the sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup merlot red wine
  • 1 shallot finely chopped
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1-2 teaspoons olive oil
  • Seasoning of your choice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Make ready all your ingredients and heat the olive oil in a saucepan, stir in the chopped shallot or cubed onions and cook for 2-3 minutes to become translucent.
  • Pour in the red wine and allow the wine to simmer and decrease by half of the wine, you must increase the heat to high and then add the broth and your seasoning to the reduced wine mixture. Simmer and continue to cook for additional minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
  • Take the saucepan from the heat and add the butter to the sauce, stir until everything is well combined.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
