They are not actually white; the leaves are very pale green with patches of white around the veins, though the outer leaves tend to be darker green than the ones inside which don't get the direct sunlight. They mature late in the fall.White cabbage with minced meat is a dish that combines finely chopped or shredded white cabbage with seasoned ground or minced meat, mostly beef or pork. The dish is often prepared by sauteing the minced meat with various spices, onions, and sometimes garlic until browned and flavorful. Ingredients
- 300 g minced meat beef, pork, or a combination
- 1 small-sized white cabbage shredded or finely chopped
- 1 carrot
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 clove of garlic minced
- Any seasoning of your choice can be used in addition
- 2 tablespoons oil olive oil, vegetable oil, or your choice
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredientsRemove the outer leaves from the cabbage and cut the stalk into strips and chop the ones that needs to be chopped so that this meal will be as quick as possible.
- After all the prepping, heat oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Then add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté until onions turn translucent.
- Add the minced meat to the skillet. Cook and stir until the meat is browned. Season the meat mixture with paprika, dried thyme, salt, and pepper as well as any other seasoning you'd prefer. Stir well to combine ensuring that the the spices have been well incorporated.
- Add the shredded white cabbage to the skillet. Stir everything together until the cabbage is coated with the meat mixture. Add in the chopped carrot as well. However if you prefer your carrots crunchy, add it after you've cooked the cabbage for a while. Cover the skillet and let the cabbage cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the cabbage to soften and absorb the flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Once the cabbage is tender, remove from heat. Garnish your meal with chopped fresh parsley if you prefer. You can serve this dish hot as a main dish accompanied by rice, potatoes, or crusty bread.
