Like all fast and easy dishes, gather up all your ingredients and do all your prep work before you begin making this recipe. This will make it quick and easy to put the casserole together. I’ve been adding some new meal options to our menu daily, and this baked tortellini fits the bill! It’s cheesy, hearty, and so very easy to make. Tortellini is made with flour, eggs, and a bit of water, rolled very thin, cut into squares, filled, and carefully folded to create a pointed ring. They are traditionally filled with ground pork and chicken breast mixed with finely chopped Prosciutto, Parmigiano Reggiano, and nutmeg. This baked tortellini recipe is cheese tortellini in a hearty meat sauce, all topped with cheese and baked to perfection. A super easy dinner that the whole family will love! Let’s get started.
Tortellini gratinated recipe
Ingredients
- 500 g tortellini cheese-filled, meat-filled, or your preferred variety if using fresh tortellini, you can add in beef or any protein of your choice.
- 2 cups marinara sauce or your favorite pasta sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish optional
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Pour frozen tortellini into a colander and run under warm water for a minute to slightly thaw it, then drain if it's been refrigerated.
- Cook the tortellini according to the package instructions. Drain the cooked tortellini and set aside.
- In a large pot set over medium heat, cook the ground beef and garlic until nicely browned. Drain any grease and season the cooked beef with dried herbs and spices, including crushed red pepper flakes, if desired, and salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste.
- Stir marinara sauce into the ground beef and then add the drained cheese tortellini.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to coat the tortellini evenly.
- Transfer the saucy tortellini into a baking dish or casserole dish, spreading it out in an even layer.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the tortellini.
- In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with a tablespoon of olive oil (optional) and sprinkle this breadcrumb mixture evenly over the cheese layer.
- Place the baking dish covered with foil in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the top is golden brown and crispy and uncover and bake for some few minutes.
- Once done, remove the tortellini gratin from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley (optional)and serve warm.Enjoy!
