Mulled Wine Jelly Recipe
Ingredients
- 750 ml red wine a fruity red wine works well or Cabarnet Sauvignon
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 5-6 cloves
- Zest of 1 orange
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 150 g granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons powdered gelatin
- Or use mulling spice instead of the spices above instead of the previous spices above.
- Optional: a splash of brandy or rum for extra flavor about 2-3 tablespoons
- Optional- Nutmeg
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients.
- Pour the red wine into a saucepan. Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange zest, lemon zest, and sugar to the wine or add in mulling spice instead of the previously mentioned spices.
- On medium-low heat, heat the mixture over , stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely. Do not boil the wine, you just want it warm enough for the spices to mix not to boil.
- After the sugar has dissolved, let the wine simmer slowly for about 20 minutes to allow the spices and citrus zest to infuse their flavors into the wine.
- Take off the saucepan from the heat and strain the mulled wine mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl, and throw away or discard the spices and zest.
- In a different small bowl, sprinkle the powdered gelatin over 1/4 cup of cold water and let it sit for a few minutes to bloom. Once bloomed, add the gelatin mixture to the warm mulled wine and whisk until the gelatin completely dissolves.
- This can be omitted, If using, stir in the splash of brandy or rum for an extra depth of flavor.
- Your mulled wine is ready. Pour the mulled wine mixture into individual serving glasses or a large dish for refrigerating.
- Refrigerate the jelly for about 4-6 hours or until it's fully set and you're ready to serve your mulled wine.
