Piri Piri Chicken, also known as Peri-Peri Chicken, is a dish made with marinated chicken infused with spicy chili peppers, herbs, and tangy citrus, delivering a fiery and flavorful meal. This recipe presents a homemade version of this beloved dish.

Homemade Piri Piri Chicken

Ingredients
  

  • chicken leg
  • chili pepper
  • garlic
  • onion
  • herbs and spices
  • salt and pepper
  • orange

Instructions
 

  • In a blender or food processor, combine the stemmed and seeded red chili peppers, peeled garlic cloves, roughly chopped onion, lemon juice, orange juice, olive oil, red wine vinegar, smoked paprika (if using), dried oregano, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth.
  • Place the chicken pieces in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.Pour the prepared marinade over the chicken, ensuring it's well-coated. Massage the marinade into the chicken to ensure even coverage.
  • Cover the dish or seal the bag and refrigerate. Marinate the chicken for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and grill for approximately 30-40 minutes, turning occasionally until the chicken is cooked through with crispy and charred edges.
  • Use a kitchen brush to baste the chicken with extra marinade while grilling.
  • Once cooked, remove the Piri Piri Chicken from the grill or oven. Serve hot with sides like rice, grilled vegetables, or a fresh salad.

Before serving, make sure the chicken is cooked through by taking its internal temperature, which for poultry should be 165°F (74°C).
