Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • donut cutter
  • deep frying pan
  • slotted spoon
  • paper towels
  • rolling pin

Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour
  • granulated sugar
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • ground cinnamon
  • unsalted butter
  • vanilla extract
  • vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon (if using). Mix well.
  • In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
  • Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.Use a donut cutter or round cookie cutters to cut out donut shapes. For traditional donuts, use a larger cutter for the outer shape and a smaller one for the inner hole
  • In a deep frying pan or oil fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium heat. Use enough oil to submerge the donuts while frying.
  • Carefully slide the shaped donuts into the hot oil, frying 1-2 minutes per side or until they turn golden brown. Use a slotted spoon or spider strainer to turn and remove the donuts from the oil.
  • Place the fried donuts on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still warm, toss them in your choice of toppings: powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, chocolate glaze, or colorful sprinkles.
  • Serve the Easy Homemade Donuts warm and enjoy the delightful sweetness and fluffiness with every bite.
