Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • food processor

Ingredients

  • ice cream (e.g., vanilla, chocolate, or cinnamon
  • cornflakes
  • ground cinnamon
  • granulated sugar
  • eggs
  • vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place four scoops of ice cream on the parchment paper. Ensure they are evenly sized.
  • Freeze the ice cream scoops for at least 30 minutes, or until they are firm.
  • In a food processor, pulse the cornflakes or crushed cereal until they are finely ground.
Transfer the ground cereal to a shallow bowl and stir in the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar.
    `
  • Remove the frozen ice cream scoops from the freezer.
Roll each ice cream scoop in the cereal mixture, pressing gently to ensure it adheres well. You may need to repeat this step to create a thicker coating.
  • Place the coated ice cream balls back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
Return the ice cream balls to the freezer and freeze for at least 1 hour. This step is crucial to ensure the ice cream stays frozen during frying.
  • In a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use enough oil to submerge the ice cream balls completely.
  • Carefully lower one coated ice cream ball into the hot oil using a slotted spoon or a wire spider strainer.
Fry for about 1-2 minutes, or until the coating turns golden brown. Keep the oil temperature steady.
  • Remove the fried ice cream ball from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Repeat the frying process with the remaining ice cream balls. Work quickly to prevent them from melting.
  • Top with whipped cream, fresh mint leaves, and a maraschino cherry for a classic presentation.
Serve immediately and enjoy your indulgent deep-fried ice cream!
