Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • rolling pin
  • nonstick skillet
  • tongs

Ingredients

  • all purpose flour
  • salt
  • baking powder
  • olive oil
  • warm water

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix them together thoroughly.
  • Pour the olive oil (or vegetable oil) into the dry ingredients, followed by the warm water. Mix everything together with a spoon until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed
  • Place the dough back into the mixing bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest for about 30 minutes. This resting time allows the dough to relax and become easier to work with.
  • After resting, divide the dough into 8-10 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball. On a floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out each dough ball into a thin circle, about 6-8 inches in diameter. You can make them as thin or thick as you prefer.
  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. You can lightly grease the skillet with a bit of oil, but it's not necessary. Place one rolled-out flatbread onto the hot skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side. It should puff up slightly and have golden brown spots. Use tongs or a spatula to flip it.
  • Continue cooking the remaining flatbreads in the same way, stacking them on a plate and covering them with a kitchen towel to keep them warm and soft.
  • Serve your homemade flatbreads warm, either as wraps or as a side with your favorite dishes. They are best enjoyed fresh!
