Matcha latte recipe

Matcha latte is a popular and soothing beverage made from matcha, a finely ground green tea powder, and steamed milk. This beverage originates from Japan and is celebrated for its vibrant green color, unique flavor profile, and potential health benefits. To prepare a matcha latte, one typically blends matcha powder with a small amount of hot water to create a concentrated tea base. Then, steamed milk is added to create a creamy and velvety texture. Matcha lattes are enjoyed for their balanced combination of the slightly bitter and earthy taste of matcha with the smoothness of milk, making it a favorite choice among tea enthusiasts and coffee drinkers alike.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder

  • 2 tablespoons hot water (not boiling)

  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy of your choice)

  • 1-2 teaspoons sweetener (such as honey, agave syrup, or sugar), optional

Instructions

  • Sift the matcha: Use a fine-mesh strainer or a sifter to sift the matcha powder into a bowl. This helps prevent lumps.
  • Whisk the matcha: Add the 2 tablespoons of hot (but not boiling) water to the bowl with the matcha powder. Use a bamboo matcha whisk (Chasen) or a small regular whisk to vigorously whisk the mixture in a "W" or "M" motion until it's well combined and frothy.
  • Heat the milk: In a separate saucepan or in the microwave, heat your milk until it's hot but not boiling. If you're using a stovetop, be sure to stir frequently to prevent scorching.
  • Combine the matcha and milk: Pour the frothy matcha mixture into a cup. Then, pour the hot milk over it. You can sweeten your matcha latte by adding your choice of sweetener at this point if desired.
  • Stir and enjoy: Use a spoon to gently stir the matcha and milk together, ensuring they're well mixed. Your matcha latte is now ready to enjoy!
Enjoy the rich, creamy, and antioxidant-packed goodness of your homemade matcha latte!
