- all purpose flour
- whole milk
- pinch of salt
- white bread
- dijon mustard
- ham
- gruyere cheese
- nutmeg

- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes until the mixture turns a light golden color, creating a roux.
- Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to create a smooth sauce. Continue to cook and whisk until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

- Lay out 8 slices of white bread. If desired, spread Dijon mustard on half of the slices.Place a slice of ham on each slice of bread.Sprinkle a generous amount of grated Gruyère cheese on top of the ham.
- Spoon a few tablespoons of the prepared béchamel sauce over the cheese on each sandwich.
- Place the remaining slices of bread on top of each sandwich to create a sandwich with ham, cheese, and béchamel in the center.Brush the top of each sandwich with melted butter.
- Preheat your oven's broiler.Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and broil for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.
- Remove the sandwiches from the oven, let them cool for a minute, and then slice them diagonally.Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot
