Equipment
- Coffee grinder
- kettle
- Coffee filter or a pour-over cone
- Coffee mug
- timer
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee beans
- 1 cup of hot water (just off the boil)
Instructions
- Start by boiling the water. Once it reaches a boil, remove it from the heat source and let it sit for about 30 seconds to bring it to the ideal temperature, which is around 200°F (93°C).
- While the water is heating, grind your coffee beans to a coarse consistency, similar to sea salt. if you're using a pour-over cone, place it over your coffee mug and insert a coffee filter.
- If you're using a regular coffee filter, fold it into a cone shape and place it in the pour-over cone. Add the coarsely ground coffee to the filter.
- Pour a small amount of hot water over the coffee grounds to wet them evenly. This is called the "bloom" and helps release trapped gases for better flavor extraction
- Allow it to bloom for 30 seconds. Start your timer and pour hot water slowly in a circular motion over the coffee grounds, making sure they are evenly saturated.
- Pour in a controlled manner to maintain a steady flow, avoiding overflow.
- Allow the coffee to drip through the filter into your mug. This process should take about 2-3 minutes.
- Once all the coffee has dripped through, remove the filter and pour-over cone. Your hand-brewed coffee is ready to be enjoyed.
