Hot chocolate bombs recipe

A chocolate bomb, often referred to as a hot chocolate bomb, is a delightful and visually captivating treat made from chocolate. It typically consists of a hollow chocolate shell, often spherical in shape, filled with a variety of ingredients, such as cocoa powder, marshmallows, chocolate chips, or other flavorings. When you pour hot milk or water over the chocolate bomb, the outer shell melts, releasing its contents into the liquid, creating a rich and indulgent hot chocolate beverage. This interactive and creative way of making hot chocolate has gained popularity for its fun presentation and the delicious experience it provides when the chocolate shell dissolves, revealing a warm and flavorful drink inside. Hot chocolate bombs can be customized with different flavors and toppings to suit your preferences.

Equipment

  • Sphere silicone mold or a semi-sphere mold
  • pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces of high-quality chocolate (dark, milk, or white)

  • 1/2 cup hot cocoa mix (your favorite brand)

  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows

  • Optional: Crushed peppermint candies, sprinkles, or other toppings

Instructions

  • Begin by melting the chocolate. You can do this by either using a microwave or a double boiler. If using a microwave, microwave the chocolate in 20-30 second intervals, stirring between each interval until it's fully melted and smooth.
  • Use a pastry brush to coat the inside of your silicone mold with melted chocolate. Make sure to coat evenly and cover the entire surface. Place the mold in the refrigerator for about 5-10 minutes to allow the chocolate to set. Repeat this step for a second coat to ensure a sturdy shell.
  • Carefully remove the chocolate shells from the mold once they are set. Fill half of them with a spoonful of hot cocoa mix and a few mini marshmallows. You can also add crushed peppermint candies or other toppings for extra flavor.
  • To seal the bombs, warm a plate or a flat-bottomed saucepan and gently press the open edges of an empty shell onto the warm surface for a few seconds to melt it slightly. Quickly place it onto a filled shell and press them together to seal. The residual heat should help them fuse together.
  • Drizzle any remaining melted chocolate over the top of the sealed bombs and add more marshmallows or sprinkles for decoration.
  • To enjoy, place a chocolate bomb in a mug and pour hot milk (or water) over it. As the chocolate shell melts, it will release the cocoa mix and marshmallows, creating a delicious hot chocolate drink. Stir and enjoy

Notes

One important thing to note when making a chocolate bomb recipe is to handle the melted chocolate with care. Chocolate can easily scorch or seize if it comes into contact with water or overheats, leading to a grainy texture. Use a microwave or double boiler with low heat and microwave in short intervals, stirring frequently until the chocolate is just melted. Also, make sure the silicone mold is completely dry before pouring the melted chocolate to prevent any moisture from affecting the chocolate. Properly tempered chocolate will result in a shiny, smooth finish for your chocolate bomb shells.
