Simple vegetable stir fry

A simple vegetable stir fry is a quick and versatile dish where a variety of fresh vegetables are sliced and cooked in a hot pan or wok. The vegetables are typically sautéed in oil over high heat, allowing them to retain their vibrant colors and crisp textures. This cooking method ensures that the vegetables are cooked but still slightly crunchy. A combination of seasonings, such as soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and other spices, is often added to enhance the flavor of the dish. Simple vegetable stir fry is not only delicious but also nutritious, as it preserves the natural goodness of the vegetables while creating a balanced and visually appealing meal.

Ingredients

  • Assorted vegetables (such as bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, snap peas, mushrooms, etc.), sliced or chopped

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil (such as vegetable or peanut oil)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or to taste)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: red pepper flakes for a bit of heat

  • Optional: chopped green onions or sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan, and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the sliced or chopped vegetables to the pan. Start with the denser vegetables that take longer to cook (like carrots), and gradually add the quicker-cooking ones (like bell peppers) as you go.
  • Stir-fry the vegetables for 3-5 minutes, tossing them frequently to ensure even cooking. The vegetables should remain slightly crisp.
  • Pour the soy sauce over the vegetables and continue to stir-fry for an additional 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using), adjusting the seasoning to your taste.
  • Once the vegetables are cooked to your desired level of tenderness, remove the pan from the heat.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
  • Serve the vegetable stir fry on its own or over cooked rice or noodles.

Notes

One important thing to note when making a simple vegetable stir fry is to ensure that you cut the vegetables into uniform sizes. This ensures that they cook evenly and at the same rate, resulting in a balanced texture and flavor in the final dish.
Additionally, maintain high heat throughout the cooking process to achieve the characteristic crispness of stir-fried vegetables. Lastly, be mindful not to overcook the vegetables; they should remain slightly crunchy to preserve their natural freshness and nutritional value.
