Equipment

  • rolling pin
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper

Ingredients

  • puff pastry
  • semi sweet chocolate chips or chocolate bar
  • egg
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a rectangle that's about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Cut the dough into rectangles, each about 3-4 inches wide and 6-8 inches long. The size can vary based on your preference.
  • Place a small handful of chocolate chips or pieces along one short end of each rectangle. You can also use a chocolate bar cut into small pieces.
  • Starting from the end with the chocolate, gently roll up each rectangle, enclosing the chocolate as you go. Place the rolled croissants seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and let the croissants rest in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight. This resting time helps the dough to relax and develop flavor.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Just before baking, brush the tops of the croissants with beaten egg. This will give them a beautiful golden color as they bake.
  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are puffed and golden brown.
  • Allow the chocolate croissants to cool slightly before serving. If desired, dust the croissants with powdered sugar for an elegant touch.

Notes

  • Use high-quality puff pastry for the best results. You can find puff pastry in the frozen section of most grocery stores.
  • You can use any type of chocolate you prefer, such as semisweet, bittersweet, or even white chocolate.
  • For a variation, you can also add a thin layer of almond paste along with the chocolate.
  • If the puff pastry becomes too warm or sticky while working, place it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to firm up before continuing.
