Ingredients
  

  • all purpose flour
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • unsalted butter
  • granulated sugar
  • eggs
  • banana
  • vanilla extract
  • buttermilk
  • cream cheese
  • sugar

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • Mix in the mashed bananas until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry flour mixture and the buttermilk to the banana mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract.Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until the frosting is smooth and reaches your desired consistency.
  • Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate.Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting over the top.Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining cream cheese frosting.
  • For a decorative touch, you can garnish the cake with banana slices or chopped nuts if desired.
