  • cheese cloth
  • ladle

Ingredients
  

  • medium sized apples
  • orange
  • cinnamon stick
  • cloves
  • brown sugar
  • water

Instructions
 

  • Wash the apples thoroughly and cut them into quarters, leaving the skins on. Remove the apple cores and seeds.
  • In a large stockpot, combine the apple quarters, orange segments, cinnamon stick, whole cloves, and brown sugar or honey.Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  • Once the mixture reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 1 to 1.5 hours. The apples should become very soft and the flavors will meld.
  • Using a potato masher or the back of a spoon, gently mash the softened apples in the pot.Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  • Set a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a clean bowl or another pot.
  • Carefully pour the mixture through the strainer to separate the liquid from the solids. Press the mixture with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
  • Taste the strained apple cider and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more brown sugar or honey.
  • Once the apple cider has cooled completely, transfer it to glass bottles or jars for storage.
  • Refrigerate the cider if you plan to enjoy it cold or reheat it on the stovetop if you prefer it hot.
