- Add the softened unsalted butter and egg to the yeast mixture, whisking until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.`In a small bowl, mix together the softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a rectangular shape, about 12x16 inches.
- Spread the prepared filling mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.Sprinkle the currants and/or sultanas evenly over the filling.
- Starting from the longer edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
- Using a sharp knife, slice the log into approximately 12 equal pieces.Arrange the slices in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a small gap between each bun.
- Cover the baking dish with a clean kitchen towel and let the buns rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).Once the buns have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
- While the buns are baking, prepare the glaze by combining granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
