Ingredients
  

  • all purpose flour
  • baking powder
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • granulated sugar
  • butter
  • eggs
  • vanilla extract
  • whole milk
  • heavy cream

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans, or line them with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.Mix in the pure vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet butter mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
  • Mix everything until a smooth and well-combined cake batter forms.
  • Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  • Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter using an electric mixer until it becomes creamy and smooth.Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
  • Mix in the pure vanilla extract.Add the whole milk or heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until you achieve your desired frosting consistency. The frosting should be fluffy and easy to spread.
  • lace one completely cooled cake layer on a cake stand or serving plate.
  • Spread a layer of vanilla buttercream frosting over the top of the first cake layer using an offset spatula.
  • Place the second cake layer on top of the frosted layer.
  • Frost the entire cake with the remaining vanilla buttercream, covering the top and sides evenly.
  • If desired, add edible gold leaf or gold sprinkles to create a touch of elegance and celebrate the "Golden Years."
  • Garnish the cake with fresh flowers for a beautiful and celebratory presentation.
