Ingredients

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the bottom and sides of a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a small saucepan, melt the 1/4 cup of unsalted butter over low heat.Add the packed brown sugar to the melted butter, stirring until it dissolves and combines into a smooth caramel-like sauce.
  • Pour the caramel sauce into the greased cake pan, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
  • Arrange the pineapple rings on top of the caramel sauce, making sure they cover the bottom of the pan. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple ring if desired.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • In a separate large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the pure vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.Mix everything until a smooth and well-combined cake batter forms.
  • Carefully pour the cake batter over the arranged pineapple and caramel topping in the cake pan.Spread the batter evenly using a spatula.
  • Place the cake pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 5 minutes.Run a knife around the edges of the cake to loosen it from the pan.
  • Place a serving plate or platter over the cake pan and quickly invert the cake onto the plate, allowing the pineapple topping to become the top of the cake
  • Slice and serve the Classic Pineapple Upside-Down Cake warm or at room temperature.Garnish with additional cherries or a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
