Equipment
- bamboo sushi rolling mat
- Plastic wrap or parchment paper
- Sharp knife for slicing the rolls
Ingredients
- sushi rice
- seaweed sheets
- fresh salmon fillet
- Soy sauce
- Wasabi paste
- Pickled ginger (gari) for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to the package instructions or using a rice cooker. Once cooked, let it cool to room temperature.
- Slice the fresh salmon fillet into thin strips, suitable for rolling inside the sushi.
- Lay a bamboo sushi rolling mat on a clean surface. Place a sheet of nori (shiny side down) on the mat. Wet your hands to prevent the rice from sticking. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly onto the nori, leaving about half an inch of nori uncovered at the top edge. Place the thinly sliced salmon strips horizontally across the rice, about one inch away from the bottom edge of the nori. Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, starting from the bottom edge, and apply gentle pressure to shape it into a tight cylinder.
- Once rolled, use a sharp knife moistened with water to slice the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces, about 6-8 pieces per roll.
- Arrange the sliced Sake Maki on a serving plate. Optionally, serve with soy sauce for dipping and wasabi paste for added flavor. Pickled ginger (gari) can also be served as a palate cleanser.
