Equipment

  • skillet
  • mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 cups bread cubes
  • onion
  • celery stalks
  • dried sage
  • butter
  • thyme
  • salt and black pepper
  • chicken broth
  • parsley

Instructions

  • Cut the bread slices into small cubes. If the bread is not stale, you can toast the cubes in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes until they are slightly crispy. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and celery to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and translucent, about 5-6 minutes.
  • Stir in the dried sage, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine the flavors.
  • Add the cooked chicken to the skillet, mixing it with the sautéed vegetables and herbs.
Pour the chicken broth over the mixture, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
  • Add the bread cubes to the skillet, gently folding them into the mixture until they are well combined and slightly moistened by the broth. Adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet with a lid, and let the stuffing cook for 5-7 minutes. This helps the flavors meld together and the bread to absorb the moisture.
  • Check the consistency. If you prefer a softer texture, add a bit more broth and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat. If desired, garnish the stuffing with chopped fresh parsley for a burst of color and freshness.
  • Serve the chicken stuffing hot as a flavorful side dish alongside roast chicken, turkey, or any main course of your choice.
