- saucepan
- wooden spoon
Ingredients
- milk
- heavy cream
- granulated sugar
- custard powder
- vanilla extract
- salt
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the custard powder and about 1/4 cup (60ml) of the milk to form a smooth paste. Set this paste aside.
- In a saucepan, heat the remaining milk over medium heat. Add the sugar and a pinch of salt to the milk.
- Stir continuously until the milk is hot and the sugar has completely dissolved. Be careful not to let it boil.Once the milk is hot, gradually pour it into the custard paste while stirring continuously. This helps prevent lumps from forming.
- Return the milk and custard mixture to the saucepan.
- Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and continue to stir the custard mixture gently but continuously.
- Cook the custard for about 5-7 minutes or until it thickens to your desired consistency. It should coat the back of a spoon and have a smooth texture.
- If using heavy cream for extra creaminess, add it to the custard and stir until well combined.Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Ultramel Custard can be served warm or cold. If serving warm, ladle it into dessert bowls and enjoy immediately.
- If serving cold, transfer the custard to a separate container, cover it with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming, and refrigerate until chilled.
- Serve your homemade Ultramel Custard on its own or with your favorite desserts, such as malva pudding, fruit salad, or jelly.Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg on top for extra flavor, if desired.
