Equipment

  • Large pot for boiling potatoes
  • mixing bowls
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • Deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pan for frying
  • slotted spoon
  • Paper towels for draining

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot of salted boiling water. Boil until tender, about 15 minutes.
  • Drain and mash them until smooth. In a mixing bowl, combine the grated cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, green onions, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
  • Take a small amount of mashed potatoes and flatten it in your hand. Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture in the center and encase it with the mashed potatoes, forming a ball.
  • Ensure there are no gaps. Roll each potato ball in flour, dip it in beaten eggs, and then coat it with breadcrumbs.
  • Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. In a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (180°C).
  • Carefully place a few potato balls in the hot oil and fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Be cautious not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried potato balls and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve the deep-fried potato balls with cheese hot and enjoy!
