Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • wooden spoon
  • large pot

Ingredients

  • self raising flour
  • salt
  • butter
  • warm water
  • sugar
  • warm milk

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour, salt, and softened butter.
  • If you prefer slightly sweet dombolo, you can add sugar to the dry ingredients at this point.
  • Gradually add warm water or milk to the dry ingredients while stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula. The amount of liquid may vary, so add it slowly until you achieve a soft and slightly sticky dough. The dough should be firm enough to hold its shape but not too dry.
  • Lightly flour your hands to prevent sticking. Take a small portion of the dough and roll it between your palms to form a smooth ball, approximately the size of a golf ball. Repeat this process with the rest of the dough.
  • Fill a large pot with water, making sure there's enough space for the dombolo to expand while cooking.
  • Bring the water to a boil over medium heat.Gently drop the formed dombolo into the boiling water, one by one, and be careful not to overcrowd the pot.
  • Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and reduce the heat to low. Let the dombolo simmer for about 20 minutes or until they are cooked through. They will float to the surface when they are done.
