Ingredients
  

  • dried mopane worms
  • water
  • cooking oil
  • onion
  • garlic
  • tomatoes
  • red chili pepper
  • salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • Place the dried mopane worms in a bowl and cover them with 2 cups of water.Let them soak for at least 30 minutes or until they become pliable.
  • Drain the water and rinse the worms thoroughly to remove any debris.
  • Once rehydrated, the worms will have expanded and softened. You can remove any remaining legs, heads, or dark-colored parts if desired, but this step is optional and depends on personal preference
  • Heat the cooking oil in a skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic (if using) and sauté until they become translucent.
  • Add the rehydrated mopane worms to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Stir-fry the worms for about 5-7 minutes until they start to turn golden brown.
  • Add the chopped tomato to the skillet and continue to cook for another 5 minutes, or until the tomato softens.
  • Season the mixture with ground chili pepper, salt, and pepper. Adjust the spice level and seasoning to your taste.
  • Cook the entire mixture for an additional 5-10 minutes, ensuring that the mopane worms are thoroughly cooked and have absorbed the flavors of the onions, garlic, and spices.
