Spaetzle and meat recipe
Spaetzle and meat is a German dish that has egg noodles (spaetzle) paired with thinly sliced, seasoned meat. The spaetzle are boiled and then combined with sautéed onions, garlic, and your choice of meat. The result is a hearty meal, often garnished with fresh herbs like parsley.
Ingredients
For Spaetzle:
- All-purpose flour
- Eggs
- Milk
- Salt
- Nutmeg
- Water
For Meat:
- 1 pound meat of your choice chicken, beef, or pork, thinly sliced
- Onion finely sliced
- Tomato paste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Garlic minced
- Vegetable oil
- Paprika
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
For the spaetzle:
- Gather all your ingredients and in a sizeable bowl, mix together the flour, eggs, milk, and salt to form a smooth batter.
- Boil salted water and hold the batter over the boiling water and then use a spatula to push small amounts through the holes, creating small dumplings in the boiling salted water and allow to cook for a few minutes until they float to the surface.
- You then remove Spaetzle with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Now let's prepare our meat:
- In a sizeable frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat add the chopped onions and cook until it becomes translucent.
- Add the minced garlic, Cook until fragrant, add the meat, and cook until browned.
- Season with salt, pepper, and paprika, I prefer using a lot of paprika since it gives it a different taste altogether. However, season to your taste.
- When done, add the already-cooked Spaetzle to the skillet with the meat. Toss everything together and allow the flavors to blend.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot. (Optional)
