Tahini sauce recipe

Tahini sauce is a condiment made from tahini (a paste created by grinding sesame seeds). Tahini is a staple of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Cooking. Tahini is a super creamy, rich vegan paste made by finely grinding roasted sesame seeds until buttery smooth. The sauce is a blend of tahini, water, lemon juice, garlic, and sometimes other ingredients like salt or olive oil. It has a creamy texture and a nutty, slightly bitter flavor. Tahini sauce is commonly used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, often as a dressing for salads, a dipping sauce for falafel or vegetables, or as an accompaniment to grilled meats.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tahini paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 cloves garlic minced or pressed
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of cumin
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil can be omitted

Instructions

  • Gather all your ingredients and in a bowl, add the minced or pressed garlic and salt to suit your taste and then add in the lemon juice. Mix thoroughly and allow to sit for few minutes.
  • Pass this mixture through a sieve and throw away the solid content.
  • In another bowl, combine the tahini paste, water, and lemon juice until everything is well incorporated. However, for a smoother consistency, use a blender or food processor and then drizzle in olive oil and mix until everything is well incorporated for added richness (this olive oil step can however be omitted)
  • Combine everything and then adjust the seasoning, adding more lemon juice or salt if needed.
  • This tahini sauce can be used as a dip, dressing, or sauce for various dishes. Enjoy!
