Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.In a separate small bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add the softened unsalted butter and egg to the yeast mixture, whisking until well combined.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.`In a small bowl, mix together the softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a rectangular shape, about 12x16 inches.
  • Spread the prepared filling mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.Sprinkle the currants and/or sultanas evenly over the filling.
  • Starting from the longer edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  • Using a sharp knife, slice the log into approximately 12 equal pieces.Arrange the slices in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a small gap between each bun.
  • Cover the baking dish with a clean kitchen towel and let the buns rise again for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).Once the buns have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  • While the buns are baking, prepare the glaze by combining granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
  • As soon as the buns come out of the oven, brush the glaze over them to add a sweet and glossy finish.
