Ingredients
  

  • 800 g baby potatoes (peeled)
  • 60 g poppy seeds
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • ½ turmeric powder
  • 150 mls water
  • Salt
  • ½ sugar
  • 1 tbsp nigella seeds

Instructions
 

  • Soak the poppy seeds in a bowl containing hot water for about 2 hours.
  • Put the poppy seeds into a blender, add 4 tablespoons of the water used to soak it and blend till it forms a paste.
  • Heat some mustard oil in a heavy saucepan. Do this over medium heat and add the nigella seeds and green chillies.
  • Fry for about 8 seconds and add the peeled baby potatoes. Stir and let it fry for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the turmeric powder and stir. Cover with the lid and let it fry for 5 more minutes.
  • Stir again and pour the poppy seed paste. Let the paste cover the potatoes.
  • Add water and allow it to boil under low heat while covered for 15 minutes.
  • Stir occasionally and add ½ teaspoon of sugar. You can add more water if you want a flowing consistency.
  • Turn off the heat, dish some out onto a plate and serve.

Notes

Before you use the poppy seeds, ensure that they are fresh and not going bad. If they have gone bad, it can make the meal bitter.
