Equipment

  • pie dish
  • mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • whisk
  • saucepan
  • baking weights

Ingredients

  • granulated sugar
  • egg
  • unsalted butter
  • pinch of salt
  • milk
  • vanilla extract
  • ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, egg, and salt for the crust. Use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to work the ingredients together until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Press the crust mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish. Ensure the crust is evenly distributed and press it firmly into the dish
  • In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it reaches a gentle simmer. Do not let it boil.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, eggs, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  • Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens to a custard-like consistency. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
  • Once the filling has thickened, pour it into the prepared crust, spreading it out evenly.
Bake the milk tart in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
  • Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool completely before serving. This will allow the filling to set further.
  • Once cooled, slice the milk tart into wedges and serve at room temperature. Optionally, sprinkle a bit of ground cinnamon or powdered sugar on top for garnish.
