Equipment

  • griddle
  • Plate
  • spatula
  • cooking oil and butter

Ingredients

  • cooked rice
  • salt and other seasonings
  • vegetables optional

Instructions

  • Place the griddle or large flat skillet on the stovetop over medium-high heat. Allow it to heat up for a few minutes until it becomes hot.
  • Once the griddle is hot, add a small amount of cooking oil or butter. Use enough to lightly coat the surface of the griddle.
  • Spread the cooked rice evenly onto the hot griddle. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to distribute it in a single layer.
  • Allow the rice to cook on the griddle without stirring for a few minutes. This will allow the bottom layer to develop a slight crispiness. If desired, you can season the rice with salt or other seasonings at this point.
  • After a few minutes, use a spatula or wooden spoon to stir and flip the rice. This will help ensure even cooking and prevent it from sticking to the griddle.
  • Cook the rice for another few minutes, stirring and flipping occasionally. The goal is to achieve a crispy exterior while keeping the rice fluffy on the inside.
  • Once the rice is cooked to your desired level of crispiness, transfer it to a heat-resistant bowl or plate. Serve immediately as a side dish or as a base for stir-fries, vegetables, or protein.

Notes

The prep time assumes that the rice has already been cooked and cooled in advance. If you need to cook the rice from scratch, please allocate additional time for rice cooking according to the specific rice variety and cooking method. The cooking time may vary depending on the desired level of crispiness and the heat level of your griddle or skillet. Adjustments can be made to achieve the desired texture and flavor.
It's important to use cooked rice that has been refrigerated for at least a day or overnight. The drier texture of day-old rice helps it hold up better on the griddle and prevents it from becoming mushy.
Cooking rice on a griddle adds a unique texture and flavor to your rice dishes. It works well for creating rice-based side dishes or incorporating into other recipes. Experiment with different seasonings and ingredients to customize the flavor profile of your griddled rice creations.
