This quick and easy recipe requires rinsing the rice, combining it with water and salt in a microwave-safe bowl, covering it, and microwaving it in two stages. After the initial cooking time, the rice is fluffed and stirred before being cooked for an additional few minutes. A resting period allows the rice to steam and finish cooking. Finally, the rice is fluffed again with a fork and ready to be served.

Ingredients
  

  • rice
  • water
  • pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve or strainer and rinse it under cold water until the water runs clear. This step helps remove excess starch from the rice.
  • Transfer the rinsed rice to a microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 cups of water and a pinch of salt if desired. The ratio of rice to water is usually 1:2, but you can adjust it based on your preference and the type of rice you are using.
  • Use a microwave-safe lid or a microwave-safe plate to cover the bowl. This will help trap the steam and cook the rice evenly.
  • Place the bowl in the microwave and cook on high power for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, carefully remove the bowl from the microwave (it will be hot), and use a fork to fluff the rice. Stir it gently to distribute the heat evenly. Then, cover the bowl again.
  • Place the covered bowl back in the microwave and cook for another 5 minutes on high power.
  • Once the cooking is complete, let the rice sit in the microwave for 5 minutes without removing the lid. This resting time allows the rice to steam and become fully cooked.
  • After the resting time, remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork. Serve it hot as a side dish or as a base for your favorite recipes.
