Peri Peri Chicken Recipe

Piri Piri Chicken is a classic dish that originated in Portugal and is now enjoyed in many other countries around the world. It is a spicy and flavorful dish that is loved by many and is often served in Portuguese and African cuisines.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • chicken drum sticks
  • olive oil
  • lemon juice
  • garlic cloves
  • paprika
  • salt and black pepper
  • piri piri hot sauce
  • cayenne pepper
  • honey

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  • Add the chicken to the bowl and toss to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) or preheat a grill to medium-high heat.
  • In a blender or food processor, combine the piri piri hot sauce and honey until smooth.
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it in a baking dish or on the grill. Discard the remaining marinade.
  • Brush the chicken with the piri piri sauce and bake or grill for 20-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the skin is crispy.
  • Serve the spicy Piri Piri Chicken with your favorite sides and enjoy!

Notes

For a milder version, reduce the amount of cayenne pepper or use a mild hot sauce instead of piri piri sauce.
If using boneless, skinless chicken breasts, adjust the cooking time accordingly as they will cook faster than bone-in chicken.
Make sure to discard the marinade to avoid cross-contamination.
If grilling, oil the grill grates before placing the chicken on them to prevent sticking.
The chicken can also be cooked on a stovetop grill pan or in a cast-iron skillet if a grill is not available.
