Instructions
Pour three cups of water into a saucepan and boil.
Add half of the milled maize or maize meal to the water and cover with a lid.
Cook on low heat for about ten minutes.
Remove the lid and stir quickly and continuously for about a minute.
Add the rest of the milled maize slowly and stir continuously and quickly for a while.
Mash the maize mixture on the side of the sauce pan using the wooden spoon. Do this continuously for some time.
Leave it to steam for about 10-15 minutes.
Remove the lid and stir. Add a little more water if the pap is too dry for you.
Add butter to pap and stir.
Serve with your choice stew or vegetables.

Notes
Pap is a maize dish usually prepared by Africans especially the South Africans. The word ‘pap’ originates from Dutch which means merely porridge. It can be made soft or stiff depending on the consistency preferred by the consumer.
