Ingredients for tilapia soup

  • 3 tilapia
  • 3 scotch bonnet pepper
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 garlic clove (crushed)
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 1 garden egg
  • 2 tablespoons of ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper

 

 

What Tilapia Soup Can Be Served With

Tilapia soup can be served with fufu, boiled yam or plain rice.

  •  Blender
  •  Sieve or mesh strainer.

 

Steps to prepare tilapia soup

  1.  Wash tilapia and remove fins and scales and cut into smaller pieces as desired.
  2.  Steam the tilapia and spice it with ginger, garlic,  ½ onion, salt and cayenne pepper. Add a little water and let it steam for about ten minutes.
  3.  Get another saucepan and put in your ½ chopped onion, tomatoes, garden egg, tomato paste and scotch bonnet pepper. Add a little salt and a little water and put on fire for about ten minutes.
  4.  Blend the tomatoes, garden egg and pepper and sieve into the saucepan on fire. Add some more water and let it be on fire for a while.
  5.  Now add your steamed tilapia and its broth or stock to the soup and let it simmer for some more time.
  6.  Remove from fire when ready and serve.

 

You can add some meat when preparing the tilapia soup if you want.
