Brief About Attieke

Attieke, usually mentioned as akyeke is a popular local dish made with fermented cassava.It has its origin from Southern Cote d’Ivoire. Attieke is mostly sold in town halfway cooked ; all you have to do is to heat it in a microwave and add your pepper and fish.

What Attieke Can Be Served With

Attieke can be served with pepper, onions, tomatoes and fried or grilled fish.

Steps for attieke

  1.  Peel cassava and grate into a bowl.
  2.  Leave the grated cassava to ferment for a day or two.
  3.  Squeeze the grated cassava to remove the starch from it and allow it to dry.
  4.  Steam the grated cassava and afterwards separate till it becomes like gari.
  5.  Mix attieke and water in a bowl.
  6.  After cassava absorbs water, stir the attieke with a fork.
  7.  Put it in a microwave for about 3 minutes or steam it for 3 minutes and stir alongside.
  8.  Remove it from the microwave or what you are steaming it with and serve.
  9.  You can add your vegetables (onions, tomatoes), pepper and fish. However you want it. You can stir fry the vegetables in a little oil and add it if you desire.
