Ingredients
  

  • all-purpose flour

    baking powder

    white sugar

    vegetable oil

    egg

    milk

    brown sugar

    hot water

    butter, melted

Instructions
 

  • Gather all your ingredients
  • Using a sifter, sift your flour and baking powder together.
  • In a bowl, cream the butter or margarine; slowly add sugar until smooth and beat the white sugar, oil, and egg together in the bowl until smooth.
  • Slowly add the milk
  • Using butter, grease the baking dish and pour the dough inside.
  • Dissolve the brown sugar in the hot water, then pour stir in the melted butter. Drizzle the syrup over the pudding. Do not mix.

  • Bake in the preheated oven until the pudding firms and becomes golden brown on top

Notes

Originating in Quebec, during the Great Depression, pouding chomeur is good old-fashioned comfort food. As the name suggests, it was popular with the poor chômeurs (unemployed) due to its relatively inexpensive and readily available ingredients.
